Building there future

Building a better future for Table Mountain’s children

The Table Mountain Day Care Centre was started Mrs. Zondi. She was moved by a little child who came into her tuck-shop with only one cent to buy something to eat. Nothing in the tuck shop was sold for one cent, and the child was wearing ragged clothes. She started thinking of a way to help all the poor and needy children of the area. She decided to start by cooking meals for the children from her house. Later she approached Operation LifeChild to help provide food and schooling, and help meet the basic medical needs of the children.

The Day Care Centre is currently run by Mr & Mrs Zondi, a very special elderly couple. Operation Life Child supplies the monthly groceries and also coordinates a supply of clothes, school fees, toys and other items.

A few years ago the Traditional Chief of the area gave some land to Doctors for Life to build another centre. This will enable Operation Life Child take care of even more children. We are thankful that after a long wait of five years, that the construction of this new centre has begun. This will be a fantastic day care center with an education room, a kitchen, a dining room, two storerooms, a room for volunteers, an admin office, separate boys and girls rooms and ablutions. Initially it will accommodate the twenty one children who are currently part of the feeding programme. We will also be able to assist a number of other vulnerable children in the future, as funding becomes available.

We would especially like to thank Peter and Kim Aleman from Canada for making this new centre a dream come true. Thank you for your commitment to the children and the initiative to raise funds for the project. May the Lord bless you abundantly!

Operation LifeChild provides care within the community to orphans and vulnerable children by giving them food, education, clothing, medical care and a sound Christian foundation. The children are fully equipped with the emotional, spiritual and physical skills that enable them to be productive members of the society.

Doctors for Life International is a non-governmental, non-profit making organisation which was established in 1991. It stands for sound science, the sanctity of life and a Christian ethic in the medical profession. Membership, which is international, is exclusively for medical doctors and currently we have 1300 members’ worldwide. As well as the members we have over 1000 “Friends of Doctors for Life”, made up of individual professionals worldwide from a variety of backgrounds that support our work. For the past years, even though membership fees are voluntary, DFL has managed to not only operate but to expand into areas such as Operation Lifechild, realising it’s income mainly from donations made by Individuals and Faith Based Organisations.
