11th Hour

“I think I’m pregnant”, four little words that could mean the heights of joy or the depths of despair… If the latter is true then we’re here to offer you loving support and practical advice that will see you through your need and many times beyond.

This is YOUR web page, so feel welcome and at home. We have assisted many women through this scary time and have the experience to answer any of your questions. We actually hope you ask many questions because information will only help you prepare for your choices.

We are here to listen and to offer you counselling and assistance anonymously.

If you’re having “post abortion stress”, we would like to offer you assistance as well. It is your overall well-being we are concerned about and there is a way out of this frightening time. “Post abortion syndrome” is a very real condition amongst mothers who have had an abortion and among health care workers involved in abortion. It is characterised by depression, nightmares, fits of crying and many other disturbing symptoms. We are available anytime to just talk.

The Careline number is 078 879 7484.

The 11th Hour Pro-Life Project is Using a New Strategy

20110624 11th Hour Counseling
Since October 2009, 11th hour has used a new strategy to reach women and girls seeking an abortion. An advertisement is regularly placed in a local newspaper promoting an “Abortion Alternative” Helpline. A room is also available where the women can be counseled, enabling them to make an informed decision. 80 women were counseled during 2010 and most of them have kept their babies. We know of 30 women who have given birth to full-term babies. The first two babies born were twin girls and there are 11 boys and 20 girls’ altogether. The women are encouraged and supported through follow-up calls and sms’s during pregnancy and afterwards. Some baby clothing and other items have been donated and we endeavor to visit the ladies with a gift for the new baby, and perhaps something for the other siblings in the family. (More..)

Doctors for Life Medical Outreach to Maqhogo, KwaZulu Natal

20110613 Aid to Africa
From 13-19 June 2011, Aid to Africa, the medical outreach initiative of Doctors for Life, will be offering cataract surgery to Zululand’s blind for the first time. The needy area of Maqogo in the Tugela River Valley will be the first area to be reached. ALCON South Africa has made it possible for Doctors for Life to use one of their state of the art A-Scan devices to help screen the eye patients, and has also donated the full range of lenses needed for the surgeries. Dr Cor van Zyl from Pretoria, South Africa, will be doing the eye surgery. This will be the second time he will join us on a medical outreach. The first time was to Barotse Land, one of the most remote areas in Western Zambia in 2010. Medical Mission International made both of these outreaches possible.

From Eunice Mteshane: Home Based Care at Harding, KwaZulu Natal

20110610 Home Based Care
I’m thankful to have met with Doctors for Life. There are many people who have been helped through the Home-Based Care project, young and old, male and female. Although some have passed away, many others are still with us, by God’s grace. I would like to tell you about a child I found when he was just a year old. He was very tiny and couldn’t sit or walk and would always cry. He basically couldn’t do anything. But with the help of Doctors for Life he can walk today and he started Grade one in 2010. There was also another little girl who would always cry. Her teeth were bad and she had swollen glands, but today she’s doing grade three. Then there was a woman who had become like a very old person due to illness, but today she cannot stop talking about being helped by Doctors for Life. Therefore I say forward Doctors for Life, forward!

Aid to Africa “Valley of a Thousand Hills” outreach

20110609 Aid To Africa
From the 7-9 June Doctor’s for Life is helping some needy communities in the ‘Valley of a Thousand Hills’ area in KwaZulu Natal. For this purpose DFL took their donated mobile clinic on its maiden voyage. Medically speaking, the focus is on dental care. Dr Tina Oosthuizen accompanied by a dental assistant and support team saw approximately 20 patients on the first day. There would have been more patients but heavy rains and challenging roads made it difficult for them to reach the site of the clinic.

Big Changes with help from the Nedbank Foundation

20110607 LifeChild
Doctors for Life would like to thank the Nedbank Foundation for the donation of eight computers, kitchen cupboards, blankets, and kitchen tiling towards Operation LifeChild.
Eight desktop systems were installed at the LifeChild Center in Malelane, Mpumalanga. This development has presented the children with the opportunity of learning computer skills, which are not available at the school they are attending. It is our desire to provide the best facilities for these needy orphans and tiling the kitchen floor has vastly improved its functionality and created a more pleasant environment. We also appreciate the lovely blankets that were received on behalf of the orphans. Thank you to the Nedbank Foundation for caring and supporting the children and helping to change their lives.
