A2A Medical Outreaches

Help is especially needed in the many rural and remote regions situated far from the larger cities. In many of these areas, access to the larger health facilities are difficult if not impossible. In cases where you find health posts or clinics, medication is usually very limited and often there is none. Many patients can simply not afford to travel to their nearest hospital for medical treatment or surgery and for those who can, traveling could take many days. Millions of people living in Sub-Saharan African countries are constantly plagued with diseases like malaria.

These are some of the reasons that DFL initiated the project ‘Aid to Africa’, to reach out to Sub-Saharan developing countries by bringing free medical relief to areas where there is little or none available, through short term medical clinics.

DFL has a holistic approach which includes primary health,  dental, eye and general examinations while dispensing medicines free of charge. In addition we also provide general and specialized surgery where possible. This includes curing preventable blindness through cataract and trachoma surgery. Blindness caused by cataracts and trachoma is one of the most common problems and an estimated 80% of blindness is preventable.

Our members donate their time and experience as qualified medical doctors. Joined by supporting staff and volunteers, they assist needy individuals on 2-4 week outreaches in these underprivileged communities. This often means that they have to work under difficult conditions. Traveling can take days as the roads are bad and accommodation is rustic and in a camping style.

DFL hac been involved with bringing free medical assistance to South Africa, Lesotho, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Botswana and Mozambique.
